Read | Album Complete | Bay Area Maternity Photographer

I am just a few days late with this album...but I have a good excuse- my computer had to go and get a virus on me!!
Anyway, I so thoroughly enjoyed editing this album. I normally convert most of the photos to black and white, but I was so digging the vibrant colors, so most stayed in color.
What do you think she is having? They opted not to find out. I say Girl. All the old wives tales we tested at their shower point to girl as well. When I think of Jen Smith (now Read) I think girl. Girly Girl all the way! It must have been all the Mary Kay she had spread all over our dorm room floor when we first met. Here I am walking in with my flannel plaid bed spread and Gavin Rossdale poster and here she is surrounded in Mary KAy with a dainty yellow floral duvet cover! Who knew we would become the bestest of friends??
Either way, they are going to make wonderful, loving parents.
I can't wait to meet Baby Read and photography him or her!!

celebrating with friends

A couple weekends back we helped Knudsen's Ice Creamery celebrate their 5 year Anniversary.
The place was packed. There was a face painter, which we will get to see again at Dane's birthday party this weekend, a clown balloon artist, a petting zoo, pony rides, free ice cream cones and yummy food. We were there for hours...Emily waited in line for a balloon for 1.5 hours! There was also a really long line for face painting. We watched the ponies go round and round. We played with the chickens, goats and rabbits too. Lunch was fantastic and the day spent with friends was wonderful!

Lots of Love!!

my BF Dane...

I know what you are thinking...they waited in a long line for those balloons??? The clown was making some really cool, intricate balloon animals and shapes, but it was taking her so long. Dave had to tell her to keep it simple if she ever wanted to get out of there. Right after Caleb got his balloon it started unfolding! Luckily, the clown fixed it for him.

And a little something for the Camera Enthusiasts...the photos look grainy because they are shot at a high ISO (1250) with NO FLASH. It wasn't very bright inside and it was a gloomy day. I still like this natural look than the harsh flash that is unattractive and flattens photos.

rated {H} for HOTNESS!!

and the BEST for last...I can say that because the next 2 are my beautiful cousins!

Just when you thought the SEXYNESS was over...more girls want to do a Boudoir Shoot after seeing the other girls' photos. We are shooting (no pun intended) for mid to late July. I was also contacted by a Bridesmaid- she thought it would be fun to have a Boudoir Shoot during the Bachelorette party. Wish I had thought of that!

We've got a busy weekend ahead of us...3 photo sessions! Warm weather! I am stoked!!

and some randomness...
Lasik Update- I am SO SO SO happy I got this! There are days when I forget I had the surgery and then it pops in my head that I did and I think, "Man, I am so glad I did!" Silly, but true. At my eye doctor appt. on Wed I had 20/15 (better than 20/20)!!!

Happy Birthday to my dear friend, Angela! Miss you friend!!

No offers on the house yet :( trying to be patient.

Switching back to Metro PCS...Verizon is just too expensive! Imagine the things I could buy by saving $100/mo!!! Crossing my fingers that Metro can unlock my Verizon phone.

My FB friends are SO pushing MAC. I am really going to try to get one :)They are just cool LOL!!

Prayers going out to a family friend and her family. They experienced a loss this past week and they could use all the hugs they can get!

Reading 3 books right now:
The Glass Castle
Fast Track
Love is the Killer App

and a shout out to all those who secretly-at-work- read my blog! I got the sweetest email from a college friend and sorority sister the other day and it just made my day!! To all you secretly-at-work- readers leave me a comment so I know who you are and I will be your best friend :)

HAPPY FRIDAY!!

photography WishList

New Laptop- Do I dare get a Mac??? Probably not. It would just be too much right now to take on starting a business and learning a whole new computer system. But a laptop for sure! I just love the thought that I could be anywhere editing away :) Ah, the simple things!!
Talaphoto
Kevin Kubota's Actions
Lightroom and Kevin Kubota's LR Presets
Canon 70-200mm lens
Canon 50mm 2.5 Macro
Lensbaby
Me Ra Koh DVDS
Pro Select
Guy Kawasaki books

and since the post title is "Photography" wish list, I am off the hook of adding World Peace and Good Health and all that :)

And of course, a photo.
This is smiling Ashley looking up at Katelyn right before Katelyn double handed smacks her in the face! We were telling Katelyn "come get Ashley" like tickle or tackle her. But Katelyn had something else in mind and smacked her!

photography vomit

I am writing this after coming off a high (or maybe I am still on a high) from yesterday's seminar with Kevin Kubota at The Claremont Hotel in Berkeley. Even though we were told we could download the handout with all the info from the presentation slides, I took pages and pages of notes! I am a note taker. Always have been. I am not much of a writer, so bear with me.
I first want to say Thanks to those that made it possible for me to attend this workshop during the work week. My manager covered for me on my busiest field day even though he threw his back out. My mom met me halfway during our lunch breaks so I could bring chicken thigh meat to a customer! Zack for picking up Bean.

Okay, so I walked away with tons of great ideas and tips (including the title of my post.) I already implemented 4-5 last night by creating actions in Photoshop to ease my workflow and cut down on my editing time. You should be using actions!

It hit me this morning as I was reading these two blogs: Me Ra Koh and Jules Cafe from Kevin Kubota's The Tale of 10 Extradordinary Photographers (scroll down to bottom right hand corner). I totally enjoy and eat up reading, seeing, attending classes, seminars and workshops all about Photography. I love when I discover a new blog like the 2 mentioned above that are so free in sharing their knowledge of this shared passion. I am grateful for it. So, I thought it would be cool if I start to share my Photography Journey with you. I will talk about my struggles and rewards trying to get my Photography Buisness off the ground while having a full time job and raising a toddler. I think it would be helpful to me to get these ideas and obstacles out of my head too. There will be no limits to what I talk about. If you want me to talk about something specific you could leave a comment or drop me an email: kristalund@kristalundphotography.com

I was emailing with another photographer who is just starting out as well and we were commenting on how us "newbies" want to soak up all the info we can, but it is expensive to attend workshops and seminars and pay for mentors and what not. So I get really excited when 1) I pay the money to attend or take a class and it so worth it! and 2) I come across blogs like I mentioned above that are FREE!! I am so grateful for them to share their knowledge so freely, so in return I will share with you.

I was Facebooking with a friend last night who I discovered recently got excited about Photography. He asked me what my secret was. He said my photos have a certain look (I think he was saying he liked it~ LOL!) It made me smile!! I don't know what my secret is. I told him I tooks TONS of photos and shoot in RAW. That is a lame answer- sorry. I hope to figure out what my "secret" is by taking you on this journey. Lucky you! LOL

Here are some things I want to talk about:
Workshops/Classes- reviews of ones I've taken. Ones I want to take
My camera bag.
My Wishlist.
My Workflow.
Photoshop.
Passion.
Business.
Struggles.
Marketing.
Charity Work.
My Photos.

I leave you with this photo of my beautifully glowing friend, Jen.

I was experimenting with light. This was taken as the sun was setting- the best time to take photos. I love how warm it feels. I love her expression. I love the blurred grass in the foreground. I love the way it made Jen feel when I secretly mailed it to her for Mother's Day. Her first Mother's Day. I love how I felt when she called and said it was her favorite gift all weekend (she was in her hometown, Newport Beach for a couples baby shower.) Guy Kawasaki said it best when he said he is in this to make meaning, not money. I like that!!!

Jen's Baby shower

My college roomie, Jen, had a beautiful baby shower thrown by another college friend, Vanessa. Vanessa who is also pregnant was an amazing hostess paying attention to every detail. The lunch was the most delish thing I have ever eaten and plan to recreate it soon!! I swear I dream about those sandwiches! Yumm-o!!

The Details:
The cake was not only adorable cute, but it tasted so delish!

The hostess' mom made these yummy cookies for the favors.

The gifts!!

Jen with the Grandmas-to-be!!

These are the-oh-my-heaven-sandwiches!!

More of the-oh-my-heaven-sandwiches!! Just kidding! This photo is all about Jen- isn't she glowing beautifully? So lucky to have her in my life. Without getting too sappy she seriously made me a better person!!

Beth, Jen's mom..is such a hoot! Such a warm heart, I see where Jen gets it from.

Jen with neighbor, Mandy

After the shower we took Maternity Photos at McKinley Rose Garden. Can't wait to edit those! I will be back in Sacramento at the end of June to meet the new bundle of joy!!

a teaser...literally!

Normally I have a hard time deciding which photos from a session to put on the blog as teasers because I like so many. While I do like many photos from Day 2 of the Boudoir shoot, there are too many that are too sexy! I am almost done...Man! Not having my computer for a few days really put me behind! Sorry girls!
