sweet treats

a little sweet treat for Bean to take to daycare and share with her friends.
the "flowers" are red heart lollipops that i covered with a patterned paper scallop punch and photo of Bean. the back side is also covered with a patterned paper scallop punch and a punch heart that says "be mine. love katelyn"
the flower pot is covered with some old KI memories pp i had laying around and embellished with a layered flower.
i filled the pot with Oasis (that green styrofoam like stuff) and covered with the pink paper shreds.
easy peasy and cute!!
i also picked up some fun heart sprinkles to make a BIG cookie cake- yum!!

and for my photog friends....i've been playing alot with all my actions when post processing my family snapshots. trying to find out which ones i like. i also added a fun Florabella texture to these photos. just for the fun of it!

how'd i do that??? | Digital Scrapbooking How To

i get a lot of requests to teach people how to Digital Scrap. I am by no means an expert. I just do what works for me.
i am going to try to do a short tutorial of my Disneyland Digital album:

Ok, like I said, I was inspired by a paper layout I saw in CK's Jan 2010 issue by Annette Pixley.
So, I created a Digital Template in PSCS4 based on Annette's layout.

Open a new Photoshop document sized 12x12 300dpi.
Name it "DLdigitemplateLT"

You can see where I want my elements (patterned paper, embellishments, photos, etc.) to be placed.
I used the Rectangular Marquee Tool to create my boxes.

I repeat this step for the Right side of my 2 page spread.

and a look at the 2 page spread

I then choose the photos I want to use on the layout- 10 total and open them in PS.
I click on the square (cream colored in template) I want the photo to be placed in and then drag the photo onto the digital template.
on a MAC I push CMD-OPT-G ( i think it is CTRL-ALT-G on a PC) to fit the photo in the box.
Using the transform handles (little squares in each of the photo's corners) to resize the photo to fit into the box. Hold the SHIFT key while resizing to maintain the photo's size.

I repeat this until all 10 photo squares are filled.

I organize my digital goodies in Adobe Bridge. I tried ACDSee but since I use Bridge to organize my photos, i felt more comfortable using it for my digital scrapbooking.
I created a Folder named "DISNEY" and collected all the digital elements I thought I would like to use in my album.
like this:

When I find an element, say Patterned Paper, I want to use, I open it in PS.
I click on the Layer in my digital template I want the patterned paper to be placed on. In this case, the Background and drag it onto my digital layout (just like I did with the photos). I hold down the SHIFT key while dragging it onto the template to center the paper.

You can see in my Layers Palette on the right that my Background layer is selected so when I drag my patterned paper onto my digital layout it will land right on top of the Layer (Background) selected.
I repeat this step for all my elements (patterned paper, embellishments, etc.)

I change my Title using the Text tool.
I add a Journaling Block and other embellishments to finish the Layout.
To make your embellishments look more "real" I add a Drop Shadow.
To do this you select the Layer with one of your Embellishments. CTRL-click on a MAC (or Right Click on a PC).
Choose Blending Options from the flyout menu.
Click on Drop Shadow and make sure these settings are chosen:

Before I know it, my two sides are complete!
I save both PSD and flattened Jpegs of both sides.

I then open a new PS document sized 12x24 300dpi.
Drag both sides of my layout onto the new document and line up.
Flatten Layers and Save for the Web so I can share it with you all :)

I said this was going to be quick...let me know if there are any questions.

{a scrappy share} in honor of Srapvillage's Virtual Crop this weekend

Come over to www.scrapvillage.com and join us for a Virtual Crop this weekend. It will be full of fun, games, challenges, chattiness and SCRAPPING!
My goal is to complete my Digital Disneyland Album and start on Bean #2's My First Week Album. I would also like to finish up my JYC...lots to do! I better get scrappin'!
Hope to see you there!
Check it out: http://scrapvillage.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=30

I am finally starting my Disneyland Album. I knew I wanted to create a quick album that showcased most/all of my photos. As I was flipping through the Jan 2010 CK magazine, I came across the perfect 2 page spread created by Annette Pixley that I knew would be perfect and off I went!
Creating my album digitally is the way to go...I am hoping to be done with it real soon!
Thanks for looking, Krista

Tomorrow I will post a quick "How'd she do that?" tutorial on how I created this album.

...i scrap....

when all have gone to sleep and it is just me and sophie cuddling on the couch...i get to scrap! well, when i need a break from editing :) feels so good to be creative! i can't wait to get my paper scrapping stuff out too!

i created a 4x4 mini album (let me see if i can find a link to it....brb) Here it is. and Bean just loves looking through it! "baby katelyn," "katelyn's hat," "katelyn's nose." it is just too cute watching her.
and the other day at Thanksgiving, Tyler and Ashley brought out the Scrapbooks I made them for last Christmas. I just pulled layouts out of my scrapbooks and put them in a scrapbook for each of them and I enjoyed listening to the fam make comments like "oh! i remember that" or "look how chunky you used to be." makes me remember why i scrapbook and see that all the time and effort are well worth it.
i've already started slacking with baby bean #2! no monthly preggo pics. i guess if you've seen me pregnant once, you don't need to see me preggers again, right? still contemplating preggo pics. we just took our Holiday Family Photos- Angela rocked them! I can't wait to design our Holiday Card and put together some other gift ideas I have swimming around in my head. Ok, I better get busy! Starting to feel just a wee bit overwhelmed!

I love an excuse to bake!

I am channeling my inner Martha (and Tara of late!) and I am making these to bring over to my aunt's for Mother's Day:
Martha's Carrot Cake Sandwich Cookies

I am also making 2 batches of brownies: 1 for ILs tomorrow and 1 to also take to my aunt's. I cheated with those though. Boxed brownies were by 2 get 3 free! Hello! I couldn't pass up that deal!!

This weekend Scrapvillage is hosting a Virtual Crop. I will pop in throughout the weekend, but don't know how much scrappin' I will actually get done. Maybe some digi scrappin' tomorrow and Sunday night.
Come on over if you aren't doing anything.

I also posted this blog post on Scrapvillage's Blog. I actually scrapped a layout!!!
Gotta love Pagemaps!! Their digital sketches make scrapping so easy!

{Scrappy Day}

We laid low all day Saturday. Zack had a pretty late night Friday at his Fantasy Football banquet. I ignored the chores, errands and work and scrapped a bit- actually alot! I completed 5 Digi Layouts and 6 Paper Layouts!! Katelyn had lots of fun going through my supplies :), watching the Backyardigans and running around, talking like crazy.
The rain came back today. We got to run out later and then celebrate Greg's Birthday tonight at Dave and Busters!!

I wanted to create a photobook of my blog through Blurb, but it isn't compatible with Blogger. So I've been going through my Blog and focusing on scrapping my entries. I am not so good at journaling when I scrap, so I refer to my Blog and instant journaling!! This way I am capturing the photos and the stories :)
I plan to print my Digital Layouts in a Shutterfly photo book.

Sorry for the bad pic. It has been so dark and gloomy!

Will post more tomorrow of layouts and the fun celebration at Dave and Busters. I am BEAT and heading to bed! night!

Smiles & Frowns

On the old blog, I used to post Smiles and Frowns...remember that? I think it is time to bring em back!

:) No rain! Yes, I know we need it, but it is such a pain! It was POURING on Tuesday and I was actually laughing at myself running through a parking lot trying to puddle jump and not get my laptop wet! I was battling gale force winds and hoping my umbrella wouldn't turn wrong side out (sad flashbacks of my My Little Pony umbrella doing that at school!)
:) Katelyn and Zack horsing around in the evenings cracks me up!
:) Conversations with Katelyn make me smile. "Yah? Yah.Yah? Yah. Yah? Yah."
:) My Mom's closing date is March 5! :( She will be moving to Brentwood.
:) Zack's parents bought a house!!! :( It is in Tracy.
:) I booked another maternity shoot!
:) Getting together with the Family this weekend for my brother's birthday.
:) Almost done with your House To-Do list. Still need to lay sod and install closet doors and a shower door. Then we will focus on repainting.

:( WORK! At least I have a job right?? Another office person got laid off yesterday. She was with the company for a number of years. I've taken over some high maintenance accounts. I am not sure if I made the right decision. I am sure it will cool off in a couple of weeks.
:( Our refinance got denied! I am really getting the itch to move! But I guess we are stuck here a little while longer. I like our little place, so I guess it is a good place to be *stuck*.
:( I am so behind on chores!
:( Katelyn isn't too interested in eating her baby food for dinner.
:( She also isn't too interested in eating people food either!

:) I *digi* scrapbooked!! I got up early this morning. My brain was going and going and I couldn't sleep. So what did I do?? I scrapbooked!

Until next time...
